Welcome to La Piñon

La Piñon is the only full-service sexual assault response agency in Southern New Mexico, providing comprehensive sexual assault recovery services for sexual abuse victims and their families. donna richmondLa Piñon works closely with the Las Cruces Police Department, Doña Ana County Sheriff Office and the Third Judicial District to ensure crime victims of their rights, needed services and support. Located in Las Cruces and serving Doña Ana County, we also provide services in Truth or Consequences, Williamsburg and all areas of southern and northern Doña Ana County. All our services are bilingual, in English and Spanish , and bi-cultural. We are not mandated to report to law enforcement when victims over the age of 18 want to receive counseling services or just talk to someone.

Crisis Intervention

We provide 24/7 First Response by phone and in person. The crisis intervention service is maintained by trained volunteer advocates who answer calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Volunteer victim advocates are first responders who have successfully graduated from our intensive 40-hour full-circle training in sexual assault advocacy intervention.

Medical Advocacy and Legal Assistance

Our S.A.N.E. (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Unit is housed at Memorial Medical Center. Nurses who are specially trained to perform sexual assault exams on victims of sexual abuse. Forensic evidence is collected to use during prosecution if an offender is apprehended and prosecuted. Medicine is also provided for sexually transmitted diseases when necessary.

Therapeutic Counseling

Our outpatient counseling is flexible to meet the needs of the survivor and their families. We are not mandated to report to law enforcement when victims over the age of 18 want to receive counseling services or talk to someone.

We also facilitate the Kid Talk warmline at (575) 636-3636 for kids to talk about any problem they have, mainly "bully in the playground" and "my friend is being mean to me" type of calls. This lets us help kids know they're not alone!

Community Outreach and the Prevention Education Unit

The community prevention program serves all requests for information and training, in English and Spanish. In addition, we offer professional law enforcement training on sexual assault and first response, sexual harassment, and internet safety.
