Welcome to La Piñon

donna richmondLa Piñon is the only full-service sexual assault response agency in Southern New Mexico, providing comprehensive sexual assault recovery services for sexual abuse victims and their families. Located in Las Cruces and serving Doña Ana County, we also provide services in Truth or Consequences, Deming, Lordsburg, and all areas of southern and northern Doña Ana County. All our services are bilingual and bi-cultural. We are not mandated to report to law enforcement when victims over the age of 18 want to receive counseling services or just talk to someone.

Crisis Intervention

We provide 24/7 First Response by phone and in person. The crisis intervention service is maintained by trained volunteer advocates who answer calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Volunteer victim advocates are first responders who have successfully graduated from our intensive 40-hour full-circle training in sexual assault advocacy intervention.

Medical Advocacy and Legal Assistance

Our S.A.N.E. (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Unit is housed at Memorial Medical Center. Nurses who are specially trained perform sexual assault exams on victims of sexual abuse. Forensic evidence is collected to use during prosecution if an offender is apprehended and prosecuted. Medicine is also provided for sexually transmitted diseases when necessary.

Therapeutic Counseling

Our outpatient counseling is flexible to meet the needs of the survivor and their families. We are not mandated to report to law enforcement when victims over the age of 18 want to receive counseling services or talk to someone.

KidTalk

We also facilitate Kid Talk, a warmline at (575) 636-3636 for kids to talk about any problem they have. KidTalk is there for our kids and teens when they have problems they feel like they can't talk to anyone about. Kids can call about any problems they are facing including bullying, friend problems, teen issues, problems at home or with family. This lets us help kids know they're not alone!

Community Outreach and the Prevention Education Unit

The community prevention program serves all requests for information and training, in English and Spanish. In addition, we offer professional law enforcement training on sexual assault and first response.
